Instruction for Use or Application
-
Clean the area you wish to apply the stencil to.
-
Decide where you want your stencil to be placed. Make sure you leave the backing paper on for this step, so you can move the stencil around accordingly. Once you have determined where to put the stencil, you can mark off where to line it up with a pencil or with masking tape.
-
Remove the tape (with stencil) from the paper backing. Ensure all pieces are stuck to the tape as you peel away. If any pieces are still stuck to the backing, gently press the tape back down on the area and try again.
-
Place one corner of the stencil on the surface where you want it. Using a squeegee, wipe across the tape as you lay the stencil down. Once everything is stuck to your surface, wipe over the tape a few more times with your squeegee to make sure everything is truly stuck. Pay special attention to any changes in your surface, like on vehicles, there are sometimes curves in the body.
-
Peel the tape away from stencil, starting at one corner, and at a sharp downward angle. Make sure your stencil sticks to your surface. If any pieces stay on the tape, gently lay it back down, squeegee it, and re-peel.
-
Create your paint mask around the stencil. Especially if you're using an airbrush, you will have over-spray. Using masking paper and tape, place both around the edges of the stencil and over places you don't want paint to go.
-
Paint! Cover your surface completely and evenly.
-
Wait about five minutes while your paint dries slightly.
-
Bake your paint, if you are going to. PLEASE NOTE: Oramask 813 (blue stencil) IS NOT SAFE FOR BAKING - skip this step. R-Tape Paintmask (yellow stencil) IS SAFE FOR BAKING FOR SHORT BAKE CYCLES OF NO MORE THAN 200 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.
-
After five minutes, or after baking, peel off your masking and stencil. What is left will be your painted pieces. After your paint has completely dried, you can start filling in any other details you would like.
-
If working with multiple layers: Make sure the paint is completely dry before applying a new stencil for each layer. It IS possible that the stencil may pull up previous layers upon removal. It is recommended to use only one stencil to outline your artwork, and fill in details or remaining colors by hand.
-
If applying a clear coat: Make sure the paint is completely dry prior to clear-coating.
Applying a Vinyl Decal
Note: The instructions below are for applying your decal to a window, or other glass. Please be sure to use WATER as a cleaner for painted areas, like the side of a car, and a lint-free cloth to wipe it dry. If applying to a wall, just wipe off with a lint-free cloth before applying the decal.
You need: - your decal - a squeegee or card - paper towel(s) - window cleaner
Clean the area you want to apply the decal to with window cleaner and paper towels. Make sure to dry it completely.
Figure out where you want to put your decal. You can use masking tape if you need to mark near where you wish to place it, or to ensure your decal is straight.
Peel the decal away from the backing. Be careful not to touch the sticky part of the decal. It's okay to touch the sticky part of the clear transfer tape.
Place the decal where you want it. It is very important to lay it down from one side to the other to make sure it lays flat.
At a sharp angle, slide the squeegee or a credit card / gift card over the decal to make sure it is stuck. You should apply some pressure, but don't put all your strength in it.
At a sharp angle, start at one corner of the decal, and pull the tape down. Go slow to make sure all parts of the decal are stuck to your surface. If the decal raises, gently place the tape back over the spot, and press with the squeegee/card again.
Congrats! You did it! Now sit back and admire your work, and don't forget to share your decal on our Facebook or Instagram pages!
Applying Your New Stencil
Types of Stencils:
Oramask 813
- Blue in color
- Used for general crafts, like wood sign making, painting on walls, etc
- Is NOT safe for baking. Paint must be air-dried only.
- Suitable for wet application
- Can be seen through (for lining up artwork/layers)
R-Tape Paintmask

- Used for adding customized paint jobs to automobiles
- SAFE for short bake cycles of no more than 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Can also be air-dried.
- Not suitable for wet application
Ensure your surface is clean and free of debris, dust, or liquids.
Use a pencil or masking tape to help you line up your stencil straight on your surface.
Make sure your stencil comes off the backing with the tape.
Be careful as you are placing your stencil to not allow air bubbles into it. Squeegee your stencil carefully.
Make sure the stencil is stuck completely to your surface, if not, put the tape back down and re-squeegee
If any pieces are not completely flush to your surface, use your finger to press the stencil down in those areas.
Give it another look over just to make sure all edges are stuck down and there are no holes or air bubbles.
Mask off around your stencil with masking paper and tape to protect your surface from over-spray. (Unless you want over-spray.)
Paint a nice even coat of paint over your stencil and masking. Let it dry about 5 minutes.
